May 27th report Leech Lake

Warm, sun-filled days continue to be the theme and the water temperatures are now 65-66 degree.

We found a very good bite today in the rocks in 5-7 foot of water with Northland Fireball jigs in glow watermelon tipped with a silver shiner.

The minnows continue to fill the shallows and we should see another weekend of shallow water but I think we are getting close to finding our first deep fish.

If you are not having much luck, keep moving and don’t be afraid of going shallower!

See you on the water. I will be reporting on Pokegama as I get started out there tomorrow~

May 23rd Report Winnie

The shallow water bite conintues to be the best for us. 4-7 foot of water with jigs and minnows. The minnows are in the shallows and the walleyes are right in with them. Keep moving until you find a school. Look for new weedgrowth areas to hold better concentrations. Water temps now in the low 60′s.

May 22nd Winnie Report

Finally the fish decided to go crazy!!! We found a large school of all sizes in the 4-7 foot of water. 1/16 oz Northland Fireball jigs tipped with a silver shiner or chub worked great. The Parrot or Glow watermelon were our best colors. The heavy wind turned the lakes water temperature from 65 yesterday to 52 today. The stirring of the water helped move that warmer water on the surface. We did see most of the abitfish up in the shallows today. Look for area with the new weed growth to be key.

We will be back on Winnie again tomorrow.

Please note that when you leave the lake, make sure all the water is drained from your boat and livewells, the DNR is enforcing this extremely closely and from what I have heard, no warnings will be offered.

See you on the Water!

May 21st Winnie Report

Finally a day of overcast but still light and variable winds and the fishing remains tougher then what many of anglers are use to. Jigs and Minnows, Northland Fireballs, 1/8 oz Parrot tipped with silver shiners was the best option today. Water temperatures were 65 degrees. Most of the active fish were found in 12-16 feet areas with rock. The weedfish were sluggish again.

Tomorrow we are expected to have good winds from the SE. Not sure were we will fish but it will be either Winnie or Leech. Stay tuned for tomorrow update.

Feel free to let us know how your doing or ask questions and I will get back to you as soon as I’m back to the computer.

Good Fishing!

May 20th Leech Lake Report

High skies, light and variable winds today make for some tough walleye fishing again. We did manage to find small pockets of active fish with jigs and minnows in 11-16 feet of water. Today the better jig color was Parrot tipped with a silver shiner. Water temperatures are now at the 64 degree mark. The wind and cloud cover is suppose to show up tomorrow and we are heading to Winnie. CHeck back tomorrow for the latest on Winnie.

Tuesday May 18th Report

Water temperatures continue to rise. Yesterday afternoon we saw water temps over the 60 degree mark. The high pressure system continues to sit on us and the light winds are making the shallow water bite best early and late in the day.
Red Lake continue to be a great option. Jigs and MInoows, spinners with crawlers, and Salmo #4 crankbaits (even after dark) are triggering bites.

Look for the crappies in shallows, as those bays are pushing the 65-68 degree mark.

Monday, May 17th report

With high pressure continuing to dominate with sun filled skies and the winds light and variable we continue to see the action a bit slow. Red lake is hot in 4-6 foot of water.
Jig and minnows are working well. The best bite on Winnie and Leech is in 12-16 foot of water.
Shiners minnows are filling the shallows as we should see a very good jig bite in the shallows over the next couple of weeks.

Opening Weekend Report

Opener weekend has come and gone. The weather was outstanding, winds were light the sun was shining and the walleye activity proved to be best early in late in the day. We did find fish throughout the day from 6-16 feet of water. Jig and minnows seem to work best for us. Throughout the day the minnow choice seem to change from silver shiners to chubs. We tipped the Northland fireball jigs (1/16 oz) in both parrot and glow watermelon colors.

Water temps have stared to move into the mid-50’s and with the forecast, I would expect to see the bite heat up even more in that 6-9 foot of water.
