Pokegama Panfish

The Crappies and Gills have loaded up on there weedlines and one can typically find some great activity those last two hours of the day for crappies.

We have found the a pink 1/16 to 1/32 oz gumball jig tipped with a white tube or twister tail fished by casting and retrieving back to the boat about 1-2 feet below the surface.

Winnie Update

The humps are full of fish and we have found the smaller structures to be the location of many more active fish.

The last few days our best presentation has been a 6 foot snell tipped with a red hook and a Jumbo leech. The spinner bite should be a great option as well.

Key depths are ranging from 18-26 foot, look for the points and corners of the structure to hold the largers schools of fish.

Pokegama Update

The fish continue to remain big with the numbers of fishing coming to the boat lighter then what we typically want. We are finding concentrations of fish, with only a few active in each school. We have found a plain hook with a crawler and spinners to be the best bet.

A number of fish are still holding on the weedlines in that 12-16 foot of water.

The night bite is a good option and will be best from here on out. Pan fishing has started to heat up and I will be fishing them regularly from here on out.

Look for the deeper structure to fill with eyes over the next week or so.

Winnie Update, Mayflies hatching

The bite on Winnie remains consitent but the bug hatches are making for some needed movement to stay with active fish.

Most of the days we are finding fish deep on many of the humps located on the main body of Winnie. We are having our best luck now with a simple Lindy rig with a 5-7 foot snell tipped with a crawler. We have been putting a small shot of air in the worms to help them stay off the bottom.

On days where we have some wind, the shoreline bite still ramins a good option. Look for the weed fish to stay active while the wind sblows, if the wind slows, move deep.

Pokegama Update

The weedline fish have shown themselves on days that we have overcast conditions or the lake has that well known walleye chop.

We had a great week leading upto the Tournament and found ourselves at the top of leaderboard in the Pokegama Classic on Saturday. The Tournament was a great success and the weights were very impressive again this year.

We had 50.56 lbs for 1st place, 2nd place was Tony Jerulle and Dale Anderson with approx 35 lbs and 3rd place was Gordy Fothergill and Brad Rassmussen at 34 lbs.

Look for the Pokegama night bite to get underway shortly as we will find the sucess to those Salmo Stings and Hornets! Can’t Wait!

June 15th Winnie Report

The humps continue to fill with fish and this time of the year you need to have at least crawlers and leeches as the fish may want one thing on one structure and another on the next humps.

Water temperatures continue to hold in the 63 range. We found that a plain red hook as a Lindy rig to be the preferred choice today. Speed while fishing the rig with either a leech or crawler was best at .8 MPH.

Look for the deep bite to hold strong until we see another bug hatch, we will likely see a slow down at that point.

Good Fishing

June 9-13 Reports

Before getting to the update, I want to let anyone looking for POkegama information over the next two weeks to give me a call as I will be fishing tournaments out there and will share information on POkegama after June 27th but will get you info if you give me a call.

As for the report as of late, I just came back from fishing the Kraus Anderson Walleye Classic on Lake Bemidji and finished 10th, which is short of where I wanted to be but with all the skilled anglers fishing the event, I’m happy with another top 10 finish. The bite was very good, both deep and shallow water.

The Winnie report continues to be one deep as the humps continue to fill with fish. A number of fish are liking crawlers both on a lindy rig with a 6 foot snell or spinners with a half a crawler. When running spinner look for the 1-1.2 MPH speed to be most successful.

With the water staying at or around the 62-65 degree mark we might be a couple of weeks out before seeing another major bug hatch. Look for leeches to take over soon.

See you on the water. I will try to post daily over the next couple of weeks but may miss a day or two like this week due to the late nights and early morning getting ready for the tourney’s.

June 6th Winnie Report

The Winnie bite remains consistent in the deep structure, the one inconsistent is what they want to eat, one day it is shiners with jigs and one day it is spinners with crawlers. The Water temps remain about 65 degrees.

When pulling spinners we are finding our best action around 1.2 MPH with some liking it slower at 1.0 MPH.

The Humps closest to the shoreline structure seem to hold the better numbers. The bigger fish are mixed in with schools of eaters. The humps located further out in the lake are holding less fish but the ones that are there are bigger.

We shold have a great couple of weeks, but bring a variety of bait as you might need to add leeches in the mix real soon.

June 4th Winnie Report

water temps continue to warm as we hit the 66-67 degree mark again today. The jig and minnow bite on the deep structure was key for us today. We put a solid 70 walleyes in the boat today with a number of 20-24 inch fish brought to the boat for the first time this year.

We were using 3/8 oz Northland Gumball jigs in both parrot or Glow watermelon tipped with a silver shiner.

The depths varied pending the strucutre from 20-28 feet. We should see a solid structure bite for the next couple of months.

Look deep if you’re heading to Winnie.

June 3rd Pokegama Report

The Bite for us remains slow at best. We are finding a few walleyes each time out but it is more of a variety bag bite more then anything. We are not finding the walleyes schooled up at all.
The weed growth is looking good for this early in many of the typical spots. We are finding numbers of fish roaming off of edges but there not staying in any one location.

The walleyes we have caught so far are coming in 15-18 foot of water on a jig and minnow. The Pike action is good if one is looking for some nice pike.

Don’t get frustrated the bite should pick up, I hope!
